How to apply

Before applying for taught Master's study at CHSTM, we strongly recommend that you contact us directly to discuss your aims and study plans. Contact details for the programme directors are given on the contact page.

Once you are committed to applying, you will need to complete an online application via the Applying for Master’s study page on the main University website.

If you are applying for the Medical Humanities pathway, please select MSc History of Science, Technology and Medicine and indicate your choice of Medical Humanities in the text of the application.

Please ensure that you have the following supporting information available before making your application:

  • the names of two referees willing to provide references documenting your academic ability. (We do not need or accept personal/character references.)
  • information about your first (undergraduate) degree and any subsequent degrees, including copies of degree certificates and transcripts of previous study
  • a short curriculum vitae (cv) outlining your career and/or study history
  • a personal statement of one to two pages, explaining your background and interest in the chosen course.

If any supporting documents are in a language other than English, you will need to provide official translations.

Applicants whose first language is not English should note carefully the requirements for IELTS or TOEFL certification listed in the course profile on the main University site.

Part-time applicants may need to produce documentation certifying that they will have sufficient time for study.

When we receive your application, we will contact you to discuss the next stage of the process.  We may ask you for more information, such as samples of written work.  You will also be invited for interview, giving you a chance to meet staff and students at CHSTM.

On the basis of your completed application and the interview, we will decide as soon as possible whether to offer you a place.
