Centre for the History of Science, Technology and Medicine

Becoming a visiting scholar

We welcome staff and postgraduates from other institutions, both locally and internationally, who wish to work on the history of science, technology or medicine in Britain. We typically have at least one visiting scholar in residence, and have recently welcomed visitors from Spain, Austria, the USA and South America. Past visits have ranged from week-long research trips to residences of a year.

The Centre is well-housed and well-equipped, with its own research library, and is usually able to provide visitors with a networked workspace (see research facilities at CHSTM). Visiting researchers are encouraged to attend CHSTM seminars and to take an active part in the life of the Centre.

Researchers in the history of medicine should note that the Wellcome Trust offers a range of support schemes for research visitors. These include research leave awards covering one to three years, short-term research leave awards for clinicians and scientists , research expenses, travel grants and international collaborative research initiative grants.

Please contact us at our main address if you are interested in becoming a visiting scholar. Researchers who are interested in working with a particular member of staff should contact the relevant person directly (see our staff listing).
